About Us

Vision

To improve health in the diverse urban environment of Los Angeles and, in doing so, to gain knowledge that we can share with others to improve health in urban settings and megacities across the globe.

Mission

To transform our academic-clinical-community partnership into a pre-eminent clinical and translational science institute focused on better health for diverse, urban communities.

Description

USC is known for its innovation and entrepreneurship; linking fundamental and applied research; spanning disciplinary boundaries; building networks and partnerships with the community; and increasing responsiveness to learners. Clinical researchers have partnered with our local communities to produce major advances in health and with other disciplines to create novel technical approaches to real-world health problems. USC has a strong tradition in population research and is located in the urban heart of the Los Angeles metropolitan area that is home to one of every 21 Americans.

USC now partners with leading academic, clinical, and community partners in Central Los Angeles to create the Los Angeles Basin-Clinical and Translational Science Institute (LAB-CTSI). It is through these partnerships that the LAB-CTSI is able to generate new research ideas, teams and projects, and create an environment that promotes and supports the conduct and dissemination of translational research.

The LAB-CTSI offers a wide variety of resources to support the development and conduct of clinical and translational research. The resources are organized into two offices: Research Development and Community Engagement; four centers: Scientific Translation, Human Studies, Education, and Biomedical Informatics; and three programs Regulatory, Ethics, and Tracking and Evaluation.
